Mō te tūnga | About the role
The Employment and Industrial Relations (E&IR) Specialist will hold a specialist portfolio in either the Employment Relations (ER) or Industrial Relations (IR) area, but will work across all portfolios as required.
The Industrial Relations Portfolio Holder will lead the development and implementation of the Industrial Relations strategy that Oranga Tamariki has, including the bargaining strategies and the management of collective bargaining with the unions in accordance with relevant legislation.
The Employment Relations portfolio holder will provide proactive specialist advice, including legal advice where the holder is a qualified lawyer, and effective and professional ER Advisory service to the organisation. A key deliverable is to strengthen and improve the employment relations capability in Oranga Tamariki. This role will be managing a range of complex ER cases. In addition the E&IR Specialist will provide support, advice and coaching to the HR Advisory team in relation to their ER caseloads.
As part of the ER service and, in collaboration with Senior Employment Relations Advisors, the ER portfolio holder will conduct internal mediations and investigations and work to lift the skills of the HR Advisory team and people managers in these areas.
Ngā pūmanawatanga ōu | What you will bring
**Some key requirements of the role include but not limited to**:
- A relevant tertiary/post graduate qualification (or equivalent) is desirable
- Proven experience contributing to and advocating for contemporary HR in general, and employment relations in particular, at all levels within an organisation
- Willingness to travel within New Zealand to fulfil the requirements of the role
- Demonstrates the ability to remain calm, and exercise sound judgement when under extreme pressure, using approaches that are appropriate for the situation
- Understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, and Pacific peoples' culture
