**July 2025 Intensive Care SHO in Starship Hospital’s Paediatric ICU (6-month rotation)**

**_ About the Role_**
**The opportunities of being an ICU SHO**
- Allows an opportunity to gain exposure to the field of critical care, whilst being well supported by a welcoming and friendly team of specialists, registrars, nurses and allied health workers.
- Many RMO’s have rotated through the unit over the years and gone on to have successful careers in Intensive Care Medicine and Paediatrics, inspired by their experience in the unit. This rotation could be the start of ICU training and qualifies as foundation time towards that (CICM).
- Starship PICU is a highly regarded training ICU with regular teaching sessions (including multidisciplinary simulation) as well as the opportunity to attend regional training events as part of the local ICU community.
- Gain important skills in assessing the critically ill, resuscitation, stabilisation, diagnostic evaluation, treatment of acute medical and surgical emergencies, procedural skills including intubation, mechanical ventilation and central venous line insertion, communication skills with both patients and their families as well as involvement in research and audit. All while well supported by the wider team.

**Eligibility and how to apply**:
- Required experience: PGY2 and above. Must be eligible for general (or provisional general) medical registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. 4 positions available from July 14th.
- Preferred: A strong interest in pursuing a career in critical care medicine or paediatrics in New Zealand. Priority goes to New Zealand applicants.
