We have an important role in supporting the Crown in its relationships with Māori under te Tiriti o Waitangi | the Treaty of Waitangi. The government is committed to improving services and outcomes for Māori and strengthening the Crown's relationships with Māori.

The commissioning teams are responsible for designing community-based systems of care, developing and agreeing health plans, executing those plans, and monitoring outcomes which then feed into the design process. We work in partnership with our wider Health New Zealand: Te Whatu Ora colleagues, communities, Iwi Māori partnership Boards and the wider health sector to shape system-wide health services across the motu.

The Local Clinical Integrators are General Practitioners or Nurse Practitioners in clinical practice, who are tasked with supporting the commissioning teams to implement service improvements in the local areas in which they practice, They will work closely with their Hospital and Specialist (HSS) colleagues, the Clinical Advisors in the Regional Service Integration Teams, the Regional Clinical Director, Primary and Community Care.
