Te Kura Pūtaiao Koiora | School of Biological Sciences Located in Ōtautahi | Christchurch, Aotearoa | New Zealand - Full-time 37.5 hours per week (1.0 FTE) - Fixed term position until 31 April 2027 **Āu Mahi | What You Will Do** Te Kura Pūtaiao Koiora | School of Biological Sciences has an opportunity for a Research Associate/Postdoctoral Fellow to participate in a research project, "Fine-scale population genomics of emperor penguins in the Ross Sea". The fellowship is externally funded for 20 months and will involve collaboration with project partners at UC and beyond. We seek a highly motivated individual with a research background in population genomics. In this role you will undertake research to examine fine-scale population genomics of meso-predators in the Ross Sea to inform an assessment of the Ross Sea Marine Protected Area, with a focus on emperor penguins. Specifically, you will be responsible for generating genome sequence data and perform analysis to inform a report on the Ross Sea Marine Protected Area. **Mōu | Who You Are** We seek a highly motivated individual with: - Expert knowledge of laboratory skills - DNA extractions, PCRs, and quantification at a minimum, advanced library preparation and troubleshooting skills preferred. - Computational Skills: Ability to run analysis packages in a high performance or unix environment and R, or equivalent tools, is required; additional ability to write custom programs and scripts is ideal - Demonstrated experience of excellent research capabilities (design and leadership) required - A publication track record (given opportunity) as well as experience with preparation and delivery of quality oral presentations to a wide range of audiences is essential - A proven ability to communicate complex ideas and concepts (both orally and in writing) to a wide variety or groups including scientific and non-scientific audiences - Ability and willingness to undertake collaborative research - Ability to relate well to and mentor students is beneficial - Act in accordance with the requirements of professional integrity in the workplace - Actively and constructively participates in discussions on own performance - A commitment to high quality work and professionalism - Active commitment to upholding the values, tikanga (protocols and processes), kawa (rules) of cultural practice and traditions as guided by mana whenua, Ngāi Tūāhuriri, and valuing te reo Māori. **Mahi Ngātahi | Who You Will Work With** You will be mentored by Dr Sarah Flanagan and located within the School of Biological Sciences, University of Canterbury, Christchurch.
