**Nga kawenga | About the role**

The purpose of Offender Employment (OE) is to provide the men in our care with quality trade-based training and to assist them to continue to develop a depth of skill and experience to gain employment post release. At Auckland Prison, you will be instrumental in providing prisoners with both an employment pathway and assist them to develop the work habits, experience and skills sought after by industry employers.

In this varied role you will be working with the men in our care, helping them gain new skills and qualifications to improve their chances of finding real jobs upon release. You will enable our people to achieve NZQA qualifications and provide a platform of good working habits to take forward to the future. You will further support rehabilitation and reintegration practices.

**Nga pukenga me nga wheako | Skills and experience**

We are looking for someone who has solid background in horticulture, experience in training and is passionate about helping the people in our care make positive changes. You will take pride in your work; be safety conscious and able to pass this onto the people in our care.

As a General Instructor your role is multi-layered, you will have custodial responsibilities, industry-based responsibilities (including health and safety) and training responsibilities.
- Experience and knowledge of Maori horticultural practices and associated cultural practices
- 2 years practical work experience in horticulture
- The ability to train people in Horticulture.
- A willingness to turn your hand to a wide range of tasks and to assist in all the various prison industries as required is essential
- Can remain positive and resilient in a constantly changing environment
- The ability to motivate and harness the talents of people within a team environment.
- Experience working with Maori and Pasifika and their whanau and communities.
- Ability to develop effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Has a clean, full New Zealand Driver's Licence

Experience as an adult educator, NZQA Assessor (4098) would be advantageous however we will support you to achieve this during your time in the role.

A comprehensive induction and initial basic training course are provided for the successful applicant. This will involve 11 weeks training at our college just outside of Wellington to focus on the custodial elements of our position.

**Utu a-tau | Salary**

The salary range for this role is $70,014 - $87,691.

Appointment and remuneration will reflect skills and experience relevant to the role.

The hours of work will be Monday to Friday 40 hours/week.
