**Position**:Exhibitions Developer - Education
**Reports to**:Senior Exhibitions Developer - Science and Technology Centre
**PURPOSE OF THE ROLE**
The Exhibitions Developer - Education is responsible for the development and delivery of content and
interpretation for MOTAT’s new centre for science, technology, and innovation (‘SciTech Centre’) from an
educational perspective.
This role is responsible for working with the rest of the SciTech Centre project team to create a concept that
brings science and technology to life, aligns with New Zealand’s science and technology curriculum, Te
Marautanga o Aotearoa and Te Whāriki, and encompasses a Māori world view. Importantly, this role will provide
an education lens to the SciTech Centre content and how it is interpreted in text, imagery, physical, and digital
interactives.
**Background to the new centre for science, technology, and innovation**:
The centre will be at the heart of MOTAT’s vision to educate and inspire the innovators of tomorrow, confirming
MOTAT as the go to place for science and technology in Aotearoa. This new destination will be a playful and
collections and innovations from New Zealand’s current leaders in these fields.
**RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide and education lens to the development and delivery of a science and technology centre that focuses
on hands-on activations that explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics
(STEAM) and ensures MOTAT’s vision is achieved.
- Advocate for the needs and desires of the target audience from an educational perspective.
- Develop content and interpretation to the highest standards in accordance with agreed themes and sections,
types of experience and collection objects, appropriate to the identified target audience.
- Develop content and interpretation which delivers against agreed environmental and sustainability outcomes.
- Review and edit the work of other SciTech Centre team members, to ensure accurate and consistent content
and interpretation.
- Support the formation of advocate groups from MOTAT’s key educational audiences to foster opportunities
for co-creation and formative evaluation, as agreed with the Senior Exhibitions Developer - Science and
Technology Centre.
- Support the formation of an advisory group of key science, mātauranga Māori, technology, education, and
industry figures that can provide advocacy, insight, and support.
- Ensure that the SciTech Centre works effectively as a base for the delivery of education programmes and that
it is a practical and flexible base for dynamic current and future Museum Experience offerings.
- Work closely with the Education team to support a consolidated approach to educational experiences for
schools and other learners within the new SciTech Centre.
- Work with the wider MOTAT Team, in particular teams with aligned goals or critical delivery roles.
- Contribute to project documentation, as required, particularly with pedagogical support for the project’s
content and interpretative approach.
- Work with external contractors and designers to develop robust visitor experiences.
- Follow all museum policies and procedures including but not limited to Health & Safety and the Museums
Aotearoa Code of Ethics.
- Undertake any other reasonable duties as may be required from time-to-time to ensure that MOTAT’s
business objectives are met.
**KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS**
- Effectively engagement with educational stakeholders, ensuring their needs in the development and delivery
of the SciTech Centre are advocated for.
- Timely and accurate production of documentation to support educational requirements during the
development phases of the project.
- Timely completion of content and interpretation to meet the SciTech Centre project objective of educating
and inspiring the innovators of tomorrow.

**SKILLS & EXPERIENCE**
- At least five years’ experience delivering creative, audience-focused educational experiences in an area
related to science communication or exhibition development.
- Demonstrated understanding of or experience working with New Zealand’s curriculum documents - Te
Whariki, the New Zealand Curriculum (NZC), and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa.
- Willingness to embrace a Māori world view - understanding of mātauranga Māori within audience-focused
experiences would be beneficial.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
