The West Coast Regional Council (WCRC) is the regional authority for New Zealand’s West Coast with a vision to help make the region a fantastic place to live, play and do business.

Based south of Greymouth, WCRC plays a key role in ensuring environmental sustainability across a challenging and significant landscape. It delivers services across a wide range of activities including resource management, transport planning, hydrology and flood warning, community resilience, river drainage and coastal protection and vector control. Many of their challenges are significant and deeply affect local community wellbeing.

With a staff of 65.50 FTE, the Chief Executive leads an experienced team working closely with elected members, Poutini Ngāi Tahu, territorial local authorities, Crown and other key stakeholders.

Accordingly, the role is diverse and this requires an all round leader who can build strong external relationships aligned to mutual objectives, advocate for the region and effectively lead the team committed to the sustainable management of the region’s resources.

Previous experience in a regional or central government role is preferred but not essential.
