**About the role**

The Blood and Cancer Centre in Starship Children’s Hospital has an exciting opportunity for a permanent, full-time position to join as a Paediatric Haematology/Oncology Consultant. We are able to offer great relocation assistance and a great team environment for a smooth transition into this role.

In this role, you will provide leadership in the Starship Blood and Cancer centre clinically and non-clinically to ensure that all children we care for receive excellent and equitable care. To ensure that we provide excellent and equitable care you will be involved in a variety of non-clinical areas, such as trainee supervision, medical and nursing education, quality improvement and research.

You will utilise your Paediatric Haematology/Oncology expertise by your involvement in clinical guideline and pathway development, medical education, multi-disciplinary team training, contributing to organisational wide systems such as pandemic responses. To improve the care of all children with cancer and haematological disorders in New Zealand, you will promote Paediatric Haematology Oncology regionally, nationally and internationally particularly with our neighbouring Pacific Island nations.

**About the Team/Service/Location**

The Starship Blood and Cancer Centre (SBCC) is the only dedicated paediatric Bone Marrow Transplant Unit in New Zealand and provides all areas of child cancer and haematology care. We are based in Grafton, Auckland.

We specialise in meeting the needs of children and young people with cancer or haematological disorders. The children and young people seen within the Service, range from birth to adolescence. They come from ¾ of the North Island for Cancer care and for some services like Bone marrow Transplant we provide a national service. Some young people over fifteen where appropriate are also cared for by the service.

SBCC works within a multidisciplinary framework that includes Māori support workers, Pacific Island support workers, play specialists, social workers and clerical staff who work closely with the nursing and medical teams.

**About you**

You will also need to hold or be eligible for specialist (Vocational / Locum Tenens) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand and have Fellowship of appropriate Medical College.
