StraitNZ provides a unique, nationwide end-to-end transport service, seamlessly connecting New Zealand by road and sea. Our fleet includes two ships and over 200 trucks, supported by a network of 10 depots and a dedicated team of 450+ professionals. Each week, we transport hundreds of thousands of tonnes of freight and passengers across the country.

Operating under the Bluebridge brand, we run two roll-on roll-off (RoPax) passenger ferries—one NZ-flagged and one Bahamas-flagged—on the 54 NM Cook Strait route between the North and South Islands.

**The Opportunity**
We are seeking a Second Mate who can also step in as Relief 1st Mate after completing onboard training and gaining experience.

Must Haves:

- Hold CoC S
- TCW A-II/2 Chief Mate, issued by country recognised by Bahamas and New Zealand flagsYou have the right to live and work in New Zealand- Hold CoC STCW A-IV/2 GMDSS Radio Operator, issued by country recognised by Bahamas and New Zealand flags
- Hold current STCW sea survival and fire fighting certificates, including Proficiency In Survival Craft and Advanced Fire Fighting
- Hold STCW A-VI/4-2 Medical Care
- Hold STCW A-VI/6-2 Designated Security Duties or A-VI/5 Ship Security Officer
- Hold Generic ECDIS certificate based on IMO model course 1.27
- Proven track record working with and positively contributing to Safety Management Systems

Preferred:

- Experience on ro-pax ferries
- CoP STCW A-VI/2-2 Fast Resue Boats
- CoP STCW A-V/2-3 Passenger Ship Crowd Management
- CoP STCW A-V/2-4 Passenger Ship Crisis Management and Human Behaviour
- CoP STCW A-V/2-5 Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity
- Experience with Sertica planned maintenance software ECDIS and type specific ECDIS training on Transas Navisailor 4000 and Sperry VisionMaster
