The Waitaha Canterbury Refugee Primary Care Service is a Primary care service funded by Te Whatu Ora, based in the the Pegasus Health Equity Leadership team. The Service supports people and primary care teams Ōtautahi Christchurch and Hakatere Ashburton.

The Service team works in partnership with former refugee communities and their groups, and with resettlement organisations and other health services to deliver dedicated services to newly former refugees and asylum seekers who have recently resettled in Canterbury.

The Service team is expanding to better serve former refugees and asylum seekers recently resettled in Waitaha Canterbury. This position is based at Pegasus Health (Charitable) Christchurch.

**What you will be doing**
- Establish a mental health peer support facilitator training
- Run peer support group facilitator training and other group sessions Working to be delivered both online and face to face in between Ōtautahi Christchurch and Hakatere Ashburton.
- Engage with former refugees and resettlement teams to plan a series of mental health literacy sessions
- With the rest of the Service Team, help identifying needs and referring clients for individual mental health support.

**What you will bring**
- Mental health clinician (counsellor, social worker, mental health nurse, psychologist) with a current registration with a NZ professional body, or who has completed training and is working towards NZ professional registration.
- Ideally: refugee or migrant life experience, bilingual or multilingual, with existing relationships with one or more Waitaha Canterbury migrant or former refugee communities.
- Ideally: work experience in health services for former refugees and/or migrants, work experience, training or interest in trauma informed mental health approaches and group therapies.
- Asset: able to communicate in either Dari, Hazaragi, Tigrinya, Somali, Pashto, Nepali, Arabic or Farsi or other African Asian or Middle Eastern languages.
- We’re committed to improving Māori health outcomes and achieving health equity for Māori through our Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations. It is essential you demonstrate an awareness of Māori indigenous rights and current issues in relation to health and health equity.
- To be successful in this role, you’ll have an understanding of (or active interest in) and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and biculturalism.
