Position Purpose:
The Sri Lankan Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking authentic Sri Lankan dishes, ensuring consistency, traditional taste, and high-quality presentation. The role requires experience with Sri Lankan spices, cooking methods, and regional variations, while maintaining food safety standards and contributing to smooth kitchen operations in a busy restaurant.

Key Responsibilities:

- Prepare and cook a wide range of Sri Lankan dishes, including kottu roti, hoppers (appa), string hoppers (idiyappam), rice & curry, seafood, and sambols/chutneys.
- Use traditional Sri Lankan cooking methods and equipment such as clay pots, grinders, and hopper pans.
- Ensure dishes meet consistent quality, taste, and portion standards.
- Plan daily cooking schedules and manage food preparation for service.
- Assist in menu planning, including seasonal and special dishes, ensuring authenticity.
- Monitor and manage inventory, order supplies as required, and reduce wastage.
- Follow food safety, hygiene, and health & safety regulations at all times.
- Train, guide, and supervise junior kitchen staff or kitchen hands when required.
- Work as part of the team to deliver excellent customer dining experiences.

Skills and Competencies Required
- Proven experience (minimum 3 years) as a Sri Lankan Cook or in a Sri Lankan kitchen.
- Strong knowledge of Sri Lankan spices, cooking methods, and regional cuisines.
- Ability to prepare popular Sri Lankan dishes such as kottu roti, hoppers, string hoppers, curries, and sambols.
- Time management skills and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and safety standards.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.

Work Conditions
- Work involves rostered shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
- Requires long hours standing and handling hot equipment or heavy cookware.
- Flexibility in hours depending on restaurant operations.

Pay: $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
