Kōrero mō te tūranga ' About the role
Kaumātua/Kuia act as links between health services, hapū, iwi and Māori communities within the areas we serve. The Kaumātua/Kuia is expected to represent health concerns and aspirations of the Māori people encompassing a Hauora Māori perspective and ensuring service delivery is culturally safe and appropriate.
Kaumātua/Kuia will maintain the integrity and dignity of Māori mental health tangata whaiora and their whānau when working with them.

Te Whare Ahuru is a 24 hour acute adult inpatient unit for adults aged from 18 upwards who are experiencing serious mental health concerns. The focus is on recovery and returning people to their usual life with community support as required. The team aims to provide the best possible clinical care in a respectful, supportive, safe and caring environment.
Moū ' About you
You will be a highly motivated Māori cultural leader. Positive attributes include a knowledge of Tikānga me ōna kawa o Kāi Tahu as well as a broader in depth understanding of Te Ao Māori. You would also be a proficient speaker of Te Reo Māori. The ability to work independently and/or as part of a team. You can provide evidence of fostering good relationships, leadership and decision making with the ability to motivate and influence the practice of others.
An important aspect of this role is ensuring links with the Kaumātua/Kuia Kaunihera, Te Whatu Ora and Ngati Toa, Ati Awa, Ngati Kahungunu ki Wairarapa, local hapu, and iwi and Māori organisations.
