Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role
Cardiology Basic
and Advanced Training offer a Central Region registrar rotation. This is a
comprehensive three year rotation incorporating exposure to tertiary and
positions or consider fellowship options. The first 12 months are usually split
into two six months rotations. One part is spent at Nelson Hospital training in
general Cardiology with exposure to interventional Cardiology and Imaging, the
other part would be spent at Hutt Hospital with exposure to all imaging
modalities and participation in the cath lab session at Wellington. Both
rotations are ideally suited to familiarise with echo and cath lab skills. The
following 24 months you will then spent in the advanced trainee programme at Wellington
Hospital. This includes rotations in the cath lab, imaging, electrophysiology
and devices as well as a clinical rotation.
The
hospitals have a strong relationship with the University of Otago, and trainees
also provide teaching for medical students and junior doctors. Time is
available for research and audit activity.
The
cardiology training program is on the background of an excellent environment
for basic physician training provided in Wellington and Hutt hospitals. This
includes with rotations available in general medicine, and subspecialties when
these positions are not filled by advanced trainees including I.D., Endocrine,
Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Blood and Cancer, Neurology, Renal, Respiratory,
AT&R, Geriatrics, and Rheumatology.
The Registrar
participates in the Cardiology after-hours roster with six Cardiology
Registrars to cover weekends, evenings and statutory holidays. This run is
recognised for FRACP basic training.
