Are you an experienced legal professional with a strong background in leadership and a passion for public safety? Our client is seeking a talented Deputy Registrar to join their organisation on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the health and wellbeing of our communities by supporting professional regulation within the medical field.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi | About the role
As Deputy Registrar, you will report directly to the Registrar and play a pivotal role in providing trusted legal and regulatory advice. You will exercise powers, duties, and functions under relevant legislation, support organisational decision-making, and contribute to strategy and planning as a senior leader and member of the Senior Leadership Team.
More specifically, the role involves delivering high-quality legal and regulatory advice and strategic guidance to the organisation, contributing to the development and review of policies, standards and regulatory practices, presenting accurate and thorough papers to the organisation, overseeing effective case management, assessing and advising upon risk, building strong relationships with relevant stakeholders, and more. You will also be responsible for exercising delegated statutory powers and decision-making, ensuring that the organisation continues to uphold its commitment to public safety and trust.

As above, we are looking for a candidate with strong legal experience and proven leadership capabilities. To this end, to succeed in this role you will need:
- A Bachelor of Laws and current practising certificate.
- At least 5+ years' experience in a senior legal role, preferably within a regulatory or medico-legal environment.
- A legal background that includes regulation, professional conduct, administrative law, advisory and/or litigation, and includes exposure to senior management decision-making.
- A comprehensive understanding of statutory decision-making and regulatory practices.
- Exceptional leadership, relationship management, and communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgement, with an ability to successfully manage risk and perform under pressure.
- An understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how they apply to the role.
