**He Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the Role**

The Whakatane Hospital facility was rebuilt in 2014 with access to ICU, CCU and HDU alongside adult and paediatric inpatient services. Over the past year we have invested in developing and recruiting to Emergency Medicine services to meet the challenges in accessing specialist emergency care for a largely rural population and we are now focusing on developing the Acute Medical workforce to deliver secondary specialist care. The current six physicians within the service have wide experience in acute medicine - with this fixed term vacancy covering a team member who is currently completing a specialist training programme. Working at Whakatane Hospital is rewarding and busy with a wide range of patient case types and complex presentations. The team works collaboratively to share skills, experience and workloads and to support and contribute to the education of junior medical staff.
