We would also like to hear from **Intermediate Planners** looking to grow their career.

**About the organisation**

At Rotorua Lakes Council, you’ll work on some of the most exciting and meaningful development projects in Aotearoa. From housing growth outlined in the _Future Development Strategy_ to landmark commercial and community developments, you’ll be at the forefront of shaping how Rotorua grows - balancing people, place and environment.

This is not just another planning role. Rotorua is unique: a city where geothermal wonders meet pristine lakes, where world-class mountain biking trails sit alongside strong cultural heritage, and where mana whenua relationships are central to how they plan and grow. With around 70,000 residents and millions of visitors each year, the variety and impact of your work will be significant.

**About the role**

As a **Senior Consents Planner**, you’ll:

- Provide trusted advice and mentoring support to the planning consents team.
- Work closely with developers, consultants, iwi and hapū, and community stakeholders, providing innovative solutions and effective customer advice.
- Represent Council in statutory processes, including hearings, Environment Court and plan changes.
- Collaborate with policy, compliance, building and infrastructure teams to deliver integrated planning and development outcomes.

**About you**
- A tertiary qualification in resource management, planning, or a related field.
- Senior-level planning experience in either local government or consultancy, including RMA and subdivision consenting.
- Strong understanding of statutory processes and hearings.
- NZPI membership (or eligibility).
- Appreciation of Te Ao Māori and the ability to work effectively in a bicultural environment.
- A collaborative, solutions-driven approach with exceptional communication and leadership skills.

**Why join Rotorua Lakes Council?**
- **Unique projects** - Be part of shaping a city balancing heritage, environment, and modern growth.
- **Lifestyle -** Live where others holiday. Rotorua offers affordable living, lakes, forests, adventure sports and a strong sense of community.
- **Culture** - Work in a region rich in Māori heritage and bicultural partnerships.
- **Impact** - Your work will directly influence how Rotorua develops for current and future generations.
- **Values** - Be part of a connected and supportive team, offering flexible working with a focus on wellbeing and professional development.
