Mō te tūnga | About the role

Our Family Homes are places of safety where tamariki and rangatahi are cared for, while we work with families to find them a permanent loving home, either with their whānau or in their community. Our casual Family Home Relievers form part of a casual pool of staff that provides care and support for tamariki and rangatahi within a family home. You will be responsible for maintaining a safe, caring and supportive environment.

Casual Family Home Relievers at Oranga Tamariki carry out a variety of tasks which can include:

- Running the family home, and/or supporting Caregivers in the day-to-day running of the family home
- Day to day care of and providing emotional support to tamariki and rangatahi with a trauma informed approach
- Ensuring you are familiar with the care plan for tamariki and rangatahi and ensuring that activities undertaken are consistent with their care plan

**To work as a Family Home Reliever, you will need to**:

- Meet the Children' Act safety checking and Ministry vetting requirements (full police check etc.)
- Have a full clean New Zealand drivers' licence
- An understanding of trauma informed practice is preferred
- Demonstrate successful experience working alongside tamariki and rangatahi with challenging behaviours
- Show experience in caregiving, community work, or working with tamariki and rangatahi
- Have a high level of resilience and motivation
- Be a strong team player and positive role model
- Demonstrate initiative and sound judgement, with an ability to 'think on your feet'
- Have an understanding and appreciation of cross-cultural practices in particular; knowledge of tikanga Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Pacific peoples' culture
