**He angitutanga | About the role**

As our Ranger/Project Lead in the King Country/Taupo Operations District, your role involves planning and executing ground and aerial pest control operations in alignment with iwi aspirations. This newly established position is integral to the Treaty settlement plan for Maniapoto, allowing us to fulfil our commitments.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Leading and overseeing contract management for district pest control carried out by our contractors.
- Providing guidance and support to our operational staff within the biodiversity team.
- Planning, coordinating, and leading the delivery as part of our national pest operational work programme.

This role plays a crucial part in helping DOC fulfil its obligations and build positive relationships with iwi partners. It also safeguards DOC's reputation and ensures the district office meets its legal obligations, avoiding potential risks.

If you have the following attributes, we are keen to hear from you:

- Critical thinker with ability plan and deliver complex conservation programmes
- A broad range of biodiversity field experience, including in species management
- Great initiative and self-drive
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills, with the ability to lead and deliver successfully in collaboration with different groups, within and outside of DOC (tangata whenua, different DOC teams, trusts and local businesses)
- Skill in working with experts to understand technical advice, apply, and communicate technical information clearly
- Competent working in the bush (navigation, GPS use, experience travelling off-track)
- A tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience and achievements, in conservation/ecology/biology
- Full New Zealand Driver's Licence
- Contract management experience
- Emotional intelligence
- Experience planning and delivering pest control operations to protect threatened species.
