Do you have a heart to work with young people and the ability to build positive relationships with and support young people and their families?

We are seeking a guidance counsellor to work in our collegial, supportive, and rapidly evolving pastoral team. Our team provide targeted counselling support, alongside our youth workers and with wider networks and wrap-around services, to benefit our learners. The successful applicant will need to be able to engage meaningfully with students and put in place interventions that inspire, motivate and enable change for good. A commitment to our culture of care is essential.

You would be responsible for counselling students from Y9-13, including building relationships with the students to promote emotional and mental wellbeing, self-confidence and resilience. Must be able to work collaboratively with our students, parents, staff and wider school community, and closely with our school youth workers, deans and senior leadership team.

Our ideal applicant will hold NZAC membership.

**To support our young people and their families effectively the successful applicant will have**:

- the ability to engage with people and support them to achieve their goals
- previous counselling and coaching experience
- the ability to work autonomously and manage their own caseload
- confidence in decision making in crisis situations
- the ability to build confidence and trust and to communicate effectively with young people and their families from a variety of backgrounds
- culturally respectful practices, non-judgemental and inclusive, with experience in working with young people of Maori and Pacific Island descent
- the ability to engage with groups and willingness to participate on our Atawhai programmes,
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
- qualification and work experience relevant to a counselling role
- sound knowledge of Microsoft Office and Kamar SMS an advantage

Permanent position available from Monday, 21 August. Full-time hours Mon-Fri (8am-4pm) during term time (37.5 hours per week, 41 weeks per annum).
