- The S&R Group is responsible for supporting the infrastructure, platform & products that support the content discovery needs of Canva's wide user base. It enables our users to find the right template for their next pitch deck, the perfect picture for their promotional instagram post, and to quickly find the document they shared 2 weeks with their boss. Discoverable content, both in the form of templates and ingredients, is Canva’s moat.- Recommendations is the magic that users feel while interacting with Canva's content. It tailors the product to their needs, predicting the right ingredient to add to their design, presenting a set of categories or templates that they might use the next time they visit Canva or simply ranking our search results with their preferences always being at the top.- The S&R group needs a technical engineering manager to lead and grow the Search Platform team. This role will involve working with the various other teams in S&R to identify what platform capabilities are required to improve the velocity of product delivery in the group.**What you'll do | ŌU HAEPAPA**:
- Own and execute the strategy and development of search retrieval capabilities of the platform; working with other engineering and product leads in the S&R group and Canva wide teams.
- Drive annual and season planning, facilitated through bottoms up team inputs and feedback from key stakeholders, aligned with strategy and internal and external dependencies.
- Accountable for the delivery of goals across the team and maintain relationships with adjacent teams that rely on your team to move forward.
- People leadership and development - nurture and support the progression of the engineers within the team through coaching and performance feedback.
- Involved in hiring for growth - creating a team for the present and future needs of Canva
- Provide technical direction through reviewing design and architectural specs.
- Provide prioritisation pragmatically balancing strategic work with keeping the lights /tech debt.
- Foster a culture of high collaboration and communication, bridging the communication gap between your team and other teams at Canva.
- Responsible for maintaining a strong culture of operational excellence where your team is proactively improving the performance of critical services it owns.
- Responsible for building and maintaining a high performing empowered team that is delivering the most valuable outcomes, engaging with its customers (other Canva teams) and contributing to the success of the S&R group.
- Maintain a fun and rewarding environment of learning and celebration.
**About you | HE KŌRERO MŌU**:
- Technical background - having worked in a platform team as an IC or managed a platform focussed team previously.
- Has strong interpersonal skills & can engage a senior heavy team
- Has experience in building a DevOps & On-call culture within a team (Nice to have)
- Worked with search related technologies & teams previously - Elasticsearch, Solr, etc.
