Only 60 minutes and an easy commute from Christchurch, Ashburton Hospital is one of four facilities within the Te Whatu Ora Health New Zealand - Waitaha Canterbury District. Ashburton Hospital services the growing Mid-Canterbury region, which is home to just over 34,000 people. Ashburton Hospital is the largest Secondary Hospital in New Zealand and is accredited with the Division of Rural Health Medicine (DRHMNZ) for registrar training.
Ashburton is a great town to live in. You can enjoy seasonal Skiing at Mt Hutt, Hot pools in Methven and explore local hiking and biking tracks. There are Tennis courts and a Sports ground next to the hospital and the local pool and gym complex is only a ten-minute walk away. There are many excellent dining options and Christchurch is close by if it - s shopping, nightlife or an airport you - re after.

**Mo te tunga | The Role**
Working at Ashburton Hospital will provide you with invaluable experience in rural medicine. Here you will have exposure to a broad range of patients and conditions and be involved in the full patient journey from assessment to discharge. You will be working across acute and inpatient spaces and will form strong ties to community and primary care providers.
Training is at the forefront of this position. The Hospital is home to the Rural Health Academic centre and here you will find a dedicated simulation centre containing High Fidelity Simulation mannequins (Adult, child, baby). A number of our Rural Health Medical Specialists (RHMS) hold University appointments and are certified APLS and/or EMST instructors. Our RHMS - are happy to be guided by your learning needs and stage of training in their supervision practice allowing increasing autonomy in patient management for those nearing the end of their training programme.

You will form strong ties to community and primary care providers and gain invaluable experience in rural medicine including Rural inpatients and the Acute Assessment Unit.

- You will have completed PGY2 (or FY2)
- Knowledge and commitment of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and how the principles can be applied to health.
- A willingness to grow and further develop an equity lens and skillset, both to assist Māori and minority groups.
