**About us**:
We want more good people to come and do great things with us.
We love where we live. That’s why we work so hard to look after our region and the people who live and work in the Waikato region.
Customers sit at the heart of everything we do, and all staff have an important role to play in the delivery of exceptional customer service.
Our work is as diverse as the region we care for; from the tip of the Coromandel Peninsula to the slopes of Ruapehu. We’ve got ambitious goals and there are some tricky issues, but that’s what makes it so interesting.
Looking for flexible ways of working options, at Waikato Regional Council we are committed to working more creatively to ‘get work done’ in a way that is of mutual benefit to you, the organisation and our communities.
**About you**:
To be successful in this position you will be:
- A strong communicator
- A competent proof-reader with an eye for detail
- Digitally savvy - digital communication channels are second nature to you
- Able to build strong relationships with a wide variety of people and confident in contributing your ideas
- Able to work autonomously and to a high standard
- Able to thrive in a deadline-driven, fast paced environment
- A creative thinker who is always on the lookout for new ways to communicate.
In return, you will be part of a forward-thinking and experienced team, working on a wide variety of projects that make the Waikato even better.
**Qualifications**:
Degree in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field.
**Experience**:
No two days will be the same and while previous experience is desirable, this would be a great first job for those wanting to gain experience across the full range of communications channels and tools.
**About the role**:
You’ll be part of an in-house Communications and Marketing section, which includes design, digital channels and social media. With this expertise at your fingertips, you’ll help the Communications team to develop and deliver communications and engagement strategies that build pride, connect people and empower Waikato communities to take action.
- Support the communications team leader, partners and advisors to develop and deliver internal and external communications campaigns and collateral.
- Assist with writing and proofing copy.
- Write and publish Te Ia | The Current - the weekly staff newsletter.
- Book public notices and advertising.
- Undertake media monitoring and reporting.
- Coordinate and support a range of internal and external events and activities. This includes managing the booking and maintenance of event equipment.
- Other duties as required to support the Communications team, including but not limited to administrative tasks such as travel arrangements, purchase orders and receipting of invoices.
- Support the Social Media Specialist to schedule posts, draft content and monitor comments.
