Ātea a Rangi, headed by thePou Whakatere, Deputy Secretary Māori and his leadership team, is a multi-disciplinary rōpū that incorporates the best of strategy, policy, capability development and relationship management to lead the Ministry to develop meaningful partnerships and relationships with Māori and to deliver improved justice outcomes for whānau, hapū and iwi. This is a chance to use your experience, knowledge of local and regional iwi and Māori landscapes, and commitment to Māori aspirations and wellbeing to be an integral part of our dynamic team.
Mō tēnei tūranga mahi| About the Role
Reporting to the Director, Strategic Relationships, you will be responsible for both developing and supporting strong and trusting relationships at a regional level with Iwi/Māori and providing strategic advice and intelligence to the Ministry, Ministers and the judiciary. As the regional lead for Iwi/Māori relationships for the Ministry you will ensure strong and positive connections are made at a local level between Iwi/Māori and the Ministry's local operations and identifying and facilitating opportunities to work in partnership to improve justice and wellbeing outcomes for whānau Māori.
Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and Experience
A tertiary degree in a relevant field or equivalent knowledge, skills and experience
A high level of proficiency in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga is essential
Experience in working with iwi and Māori organisations and understanding of tirohanga Māori and Māori world views
Extensive knowledge of the local and regional Iwi/Māori operational and representative landscapes and connections into them
Excellent relationship management skills
Experience in communicating with a wide range of audiences on a range of complex issues
A strong ability to communicate information clearly and concisely (both in oral and written format) appropriate to the target audience
Comfortable dealing with ambiguity and confident in providing advice based on incomplete information
Welcome and value diversity, and contribute to an inclusive working environment where differences are acknowledged and respected
An interest in justice system issues - knowledge of the justice sector would be an advantage but is not essential

The appointing salary for this role is $124,397 to $173,973 based on skills and experience.
