About the role
The NZ Police Finance Team is part of the wider Corporate Operations business group, providing support and advice to enable more than 14,000 employees, including over 2000 managers and leaders The purpose of the Finance Group is to enable us to deliver Our Business within budget. To support the delivery of these outcomes the Senior Business Manager is a leadership role responsible for providing finance and business support to NZ Police (Police) leaders and managers within a defined portfolio. This position is heavily engaged with providing support, through strategic business partnerships, to senior managers and their groups.
We have an exciting opportunity for a proactive Senior Business Manager (Finance Business Partner) to really own this role and truly make a difference.
Reporting to the newly appointed Director of Finance Business Partnering this role will be responsible for supporting a portfolio of Police’s working groups providing high quality, robust advice and insight into the financial performance of, and opportunities for, Police to deliver on its strategic priorities.
Your financial advice will go beyond the numbers, both informing and influencing to ensure sound financial decision making.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to see the big picture are essential to this role, with a focus on the ability to translate data from information to insights, to our internal customers in a meaningful way.
**Key Accountabilities**:
- Relevant and timely financial and business management advice and coaching to Police senior managers and their groups.
- Support to the Director of Business Partnering in ensuring key issues and risks within the portfolio are highlighted and the Finance Business Partnering Group’s work programme is successfully delivered.
- Challenge and insight to decision making and forward planning.
- Support to planning, risk management and opportunity validation (business cases).
- Supporting the ongoing continuous improvement programme focused on delivering excellent customer service.
- As a Senior leader you will be connected to what “be first, then do” means in terms of leadership and for the team.

- Demonstrates the drive and ability to improve own capability, including self-awareness, high EQ and self-improvement focus.
- Strong planning, time management and organisational skills
- Proven experience in financial management in a medium to large public sector organisation.
- Be a qualified chartered accountant (CAANZ, or similar i.e. CPA, CIMA) with a minimum of 5+ years relevant experience
This role is set at Leader/Manager level, this means your key purpose is “to lead tactics for Our Business and enable people to deliver them”.
