**Mō te tūranga | About the role**
Working with the Chief Crown Negotiators, you will lead a team responsible for negotiating settlements of historical claims directly with ngā hapū me ngā iwi o Ngāpuhi under the guidance and direction of the Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations and Cabinet; providing policy advice on treaty negotiation issues and on individual claims; and working actively with other government agencies to ensure that information and advice is co-ordinated effectively.
You will be a key point of contact for ngā hapū me ngā iwi o Ngāpuhi seeking to resolve their historical grievances through negotiations with the Crown. You and your team will also work with relevant government agencies through all stages of the Treaty settlement process.
The appointing salary for this role will be between $124,397 and $173,973, depending on skills and experience.

To be successful in this role you will bring:
- Experience with negotiating Te Tiriti o Waitangi settlements (highly desirable)
- People leadership experience
- Proven experience upholding the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi
- Be familiar with te ao Māori and ideally have te reo Māori capability
- Experience managing complex projects and multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience leading policy development
- Demonstrated ability working across agencies and with iwi/Māori partners and other regional stakeholders to achieve results
- Strong knowledge of Ministerial and Cabinet processes, statutory decision making, as well as problem-solving, relationship management and influencing skills
- Strong policy skills, excellent written skills and ability to brief for different audiences
- Desire to contribute to the broader capability of the office as well as coaching staff and taking the lead on negotiations as appropriate.
