Discover a career with purpose at MBIE
- Work on some of the most exciting opportunities and challenges that sit at the crossroads of economic, environmental and social policy in a high-quality strategic policy branch
- Shape policy on how New Zealand transitions to a low emissions economy and prepares for future changes facing Aotearoa’s economy and workforce Engage directly with Ministers, leading experts, and key stakeholders
- Permanent opportunity, Wellington based location
- $103,290 - $132, 417, kiwisavers plus wellness benefits Tēnei tūranga - About the Role: Our economy is being shaped by four broad global megatrends: technological change, demographic change, globalisation and climate change. These global trends create both opportunities and risks for New Zealand as we transition to a more productive, sustainable and inclusive economy.
In this role you will help shape MBIE's contribution to economic transitions, with a focus on the transition to a low emission economy and sustainability issues. You will play a key role in the Government's response to advice from the Climate Change Commission and to helping develop strategic approaches to a more productive, sustainable and inclusive economy.
You will be (or quickly become) familiar with New Zealand's evolving climate change policy architecture and policies to manage the impacts of transitioning to a low emissions economy. Drawing on your policy and analytical skills, you will provide policy advice that promotes an appropriate balance between an internationally competitive economy and the ability to successfully transition to a more productive, sustainable and inclusive economy. You will work across different groups within MBIE and other government agencies to keep pace with emissions mitigation policies and to identify opportunities to support households, workers, communities and firms through the transition.
What we do The Transitions Strategy team leads, coordinates and integrates a strategic work programme to shape and respond to economic transitions in New Zealand, including the transition to a low emissions economy.
The team provides a whole of economy perspective on the impacts of climate change, the transition to a low emissions economy and the implications for the future of Aotearoa’s economy and workforce. We work closely with teams within MBIE and across agencies who have an interest in climate change and labour market policy, drawing on different sets of knowledge and networks in order to provide coherent advice to Ministers.
Transitions Strategy is part of the Te Waka Pūtahitanga group, which works across MBIE and with other agencies to progress key cross cutting outcomes such as Māori Economic Development, Pasifika Economic Strategy, overall Economic Strategy, Regulatory Stewardship and Climate Change.
