We regulate the health sector and are the primary source of advice on health matters. The Public Health Agency (PHA) is a new and distinctly, branded business unit being established within the Ministry. It will lead population and public health policy, strategy, regulatory, intelligence, surveillance and monitoring functions across the system.
Ko tōu ake mahi - What You'll Do
As an integral member of ODPH you will make a significant contribution to the planning, coordination and delivery of evidence based clinical insights into strategy and policy that address health inequity and improve public health outcomes. The ODPH is the central source of expert clinical advice and system leadership on all public health strategy, policy and regulatory matters. You will support the Director of Public Health through coordination of work across the team which has influence on Government priorities, policy and strategy. You will be part of a team with vision and commitment and make a positive contribution to the elimination of health inequities and improvements in health outcomes through participation in cross functional teams across Te Pou Hauora Tūmatanui, Manatū Hauora and the wider public health system.
Hybrid working available, and the role could be based in Wellington, Auckland or Christchurch or other base by mutual agreement.
Ko ngā pukenga ōu - What You'll Bring
- Proven skills in leading through collaboration and influence
- Experience in an operational delivery leadership role, delivering a complex programme of work across teams, agencies and stakeholders, with ability to work in ambiguity, exercise good judgement and with political awareness
- An ability to work in complex environments, shepherding and coordinating work in a fast-moving environment and with a wide range of diverse stakeholders that are internal and external to the Ministry
- An understanding and commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi obligations.
- Demonstrated expertise in delivering projects designed to achieve equity for Māori, Pacific and other groups experiencing inequity.
- A tertiary qualification in nursing or allied health, or equivalent experience, if from another branch of public health practice e.g. health protection specialist etc. is preferred
