You will have the opportunity to work with a range of threatened NZ fauna and ecosystem groups (plant communities, wetlands, bats, birds, invertebrates, lizards, fish) and have the opportunity to be involved in large multi-disciplinary projects, with a diverse fieldwork programme and work with a great team of technical specialists.

Our Ecology & Water Science team is looking for an intermediate level ecologist to join our diverse consulting team who are based throughout New Zealand. We are seeking an ecologist with a minimum of 3-4 years of professional experience within the field of terrestrial or freshwater ecology who enjoys professional freedom and autonomy and is ready for the next step in their career.

We would love to know what gets you out of bed in the morning to help you shape this role for yourself and to suit your strengths, but as a starting point the sort of work you can expect to be involved will include:

- A range of scientific and ecological fieldwork in a variety of, terrestrial, freshwater and wetland ecosystems, including habitat and vegetation mapping, species surveys, stream ecological valuations and species translocation
- Data collection, management and information presentation
- Report writing, including preparation of technical reports, compliance reports, ecological management/restoration plans and ecological impact assessment reports
- Planning ,coordinating and leading fieldwork activities in collaboration with project teams
- Ecology related regulatory policy and integrated scientific, engineering and ecological services
- Sustainable development (conservation, ecosystem services, biodiversity, urban development, agricultural intensification) initiatives and operations at a regional and national levels
- Science innovation for improved resource management
- Liaison with T+T staff, Council personnel and DOC representatives
- Engagement with mana whenua and incorporation of Mātauranga Māori into project work

**Nā** **tōu rourou | What you'll bring**
- A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany or closely related discipline, MSc desirable
- At least 3 years of relevant professional work experience in a consulting, regulatory and / or research environment
- High level of organisation, time management, able to manage competing demands in a fast-paced work environment
- Previous experience implementing ecological management aspects, including habitat and vegetation mapping, species surveys and relocations.
- Experience collecting a range of ecological data, familiarity with ecological survey techniques, data management and record keeping
- Experience in report writing, including preparation of technical reports, compliance reports, ecological management/restoration plans and ecological impact assessment reports
- Excellent communication skills and able to confidently communicate with a range of parties including Council, Doc and local Iwi representatives
- Solution focused with problem solving skills, high attention to detail and professional initiative
- GPS, GIS skills and digital mapping competencies
- Good communication skills, able to confidently communicate with a range of people, -and you need to be able to work well with others. Previous experience leading a field team preferable.
