The Ministry of Transport, Te Manatu Waka is the system leader for the transport sector whether it's on land, at sea, in the air, or connecting Aotearoa to the world. We work in partnership with a number of transport agencies to help keep the transport system moving and are the government's principal adviser on transport policy, regulation and investment. We play a crucial role in ensuring the transport system is working to improve the prosperity for New Zealanders.

**About the opportunity | Nga whakamarama mo te tunga**

Led by a supportive and encouraging Manager, our Resilience and Security Team is made up of 10 Advisers across all levels. They specialise in policy, emergency management, Pacific engagement and maritime security.

We are looking for an experienced policy professional to join our friendly and high performing Resilience and Security team. You will use your previous policy experience to deliver on complex policy issues though team collaboration. You will have the opportunity to not only work on a range of high priority areas but also be exposed to all areas of the ministry.

Based on the work or support that may be required, this position is Wellington based only.

**What you'll bring | Te wahi ki a koe**
- Experience in successfully contributing to the end-to-end process of policy development across multiple portfolio areas.
- Experience and demonstrated capability in anticipating requirements to successfully prepare and complete written ministerial correspondence and briefings. Able to successfully interpret legislation across multiple portfolio areas.
- Experience and demonstrated capability in successfully building and maintaining effective working relationships and collaborating with others to achieve outcomes.
- Strong writing skills, experience and demonstrated capability in successfully interpreting and communicating effectively to diverse audiences.
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
- The **ability** to gain a Top Secret clearance is mandatory (click here to find out more about the national security vetting process and access the eligibility self-check tool).

Previous central government experience from within a similar environment, is highly desirable.

**Salary range | Whanuitanga Utu a-Tau**

The base salary range budget for this position is $90,791 ' $120,504 (mid point $100,420) per annum + KiwiSaver. The salary offered will reflect skills and experience.
