About the Team

Our Claims professionals support AIG policyholders through some of the most trying times. When our clients face losses large and small, we step up to help them ease the financial burdens of catastrophic events like fires and hurricanes; we help them get their businesses back up and running again or recoup the value of a lost family heirloom or a prized possession. Our Claims team is an industry leader, drawing daily on its unparalleled levels of expertise to offer our clients the highest levels of stewardship to drive total cost of claim improvement and consistent outcomes. AIG manages claims using a wealth of technical and market knowledge about risks, business practices, and the ever-evolving legal and regulatory environment.

Reporting to the Complex Claims Team Manager, Financial Lines, New Zealand you will manage a portfolio of complex claims including professional indemnity, D&O and management liability claims, in accordance with AIG’s Proactive Claims Management guidelines.

About the role

The role involves handling claims of considerable complexity with particular emphasis on reducing claims costs, providing exceptional customer service and understanding the financial impact of claims on the business.

The successful applicant will be required to undertake coverage investigations, assess liability and quantum, negotiate early settlements and manage the reserve process. There would be particular focus on making early claims decision that result in costs and legal spend savings for the business.

Key accountabilities will include but not limited to:
Functional Responsibilities
- Managing claims handling enquiries, coverage determinations, quantum analysis and legal liability assessments
- Ensuring effective vendor and litigation management on Complex claims, including demonstrable savings
- Reporting key claims outcomes to the Complex Claims Manager and to internal stakeholders
- Broadening internal / external stakeholder communication where required, as financial lines technical claims expert and thought leader
- Delivering technical training to colleagues and external contacts as appropriate
- Assisting in continuous improvement across the region through support for the Quality Assurance / Regional Audit processes (including assisting Australasian Complex Claims Manager to complete monthly quality assurance reviews)
- Ensuring adherence to best practice procedures for financial lines complex claims, consistent with global best practice
- Handling higher level of complex claims within authority limits

Accountabilities
- Timely, accurate and customer focused claim resolution, minimising indemnity exposure and mitigating vendor and legal expense
- Accurate and consistent policy interpretation
- Consistent proactive claims handling on an ongoing basis (i.e. initial file review, investigations and liability, negotiations and settlement, and panel firm management)
- Effective communication and management of key complex claims and financial lines portfolio messages to internal stakeholders and customers/clients
- Financial control through consistent reserve and other financial transaction discipline
