The Manager Risk, Assurance and Security reports to the Director of Corporate Services and plays a key role in building confidence and understanding in the value of risk, assurance and protective security requirements. This is a broad role that will lead a team that is ready for growth in an organization that is looking to uplift the maturity and profile of the Risk and Assurance function.
This position would suit an experienced risk and assurance professional who is able to bring strong leadership skills and an ability to influence and build credibility with a diverse group of stakeholders.
**Responsibilities**:
- Develop an assurance framework for the activities and functions of the Council based on the three lines of defence, and an understanding of the risks faced
- Lead the development and implementation of a programme or work to provide ELT, the CEO and the Council with appropriate assurance, including but not restricted to an effective internal audit function
- Review the Council’s approach to risk management to ensure that project, operational, strategic, and portfolio risks are identified, mitigated, monitored and reported to the appropriate fora
- Lead the Council’s work in relation to Protective Security Requirements (Physical, Personnel, and Information Security)
- Ensure that appropriate resources are being effectively used to manage risk, provide assurance, and protect our people, assets and information
**Requirements**:
- Significant, proven experience in complex organisations identifying and managing risk, assurance, and security - including the development and implementation of frameworks and tools
- Extensive knowledge of risk frameworks as applied to the local government sector desirable
- A problem-solving mindset and the ability to be flexible and adaptive developing solutions that support business requirements
- A future focused approach and experienced at building and maintaining trusted professional relationships at all levels.
- Highly developed written and oral communication skills
- Experience of delivering through and with others
- A relevant tertiary education
