Rochester and Rutherford Hall is one of three independent colleges at the University of Canterbury, and provides accommodation for 192 students, in a co-educational collegiate setting. Founded in 1984, the Hall prides itself on its food, facilities, community life and academic achievement, offering an environment that is conducive to learning, relaxing, making new friends, cultivating new interests and enhancing personal and spiritual growth.

The buildings are set in 1.7 hectares of attractive park-like surroundings, a short walk from the university campus. A programme of refurbishment and modernisation of student rooms and bathrooms has been undertaken over the last few years, ensuring that residents feel at home at the Hall. The Hall also offers conference and events facilities for hire.

**About The Role**:
Reporting to the Principal, the Property and Facilities Manager is responsible for ensuring all Rochester and Rutherford Hall buildings and property are effectively maintained and repairs are carried out in a timely and competent manner. The role is also responsible for ensuring the grounds and overall environment are secure, kept clean, tidy and attractive.

Responsibilities include:

- Project managing for small and large projects
- Preparing and implementing a short and long term maintenance and refurbishment schedule
- Managing maintenance and repairs against budget
- Ensuring Building Compliance checks and inspections are completed for the annual Building Warrant of Fitness, and conducting regular assessments of facilities
- Managing contracts and contractors
- Supporting Rochester and Rutherford Hall in achieving statutory compliance including with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 and the Building Act 1991.

**Skills & Experience**:
The skills and attributes we are seeking include:

- Proven track record in property management and maintenance, including developing and managing a maintenance plan
- Experience in project management
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain good relationships with residents, staff, tradespeople and contractors
- Experience with health and safety and compiling reports
- Ability to prepare a property and maintenance report for P&F committee meetings
- Commitment to high levels of service
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to work independently and where possible as a team member
- Flexibility - can adapt to changing work priorities at short notice.
