**About the role**:
This role is responsible for providing high quality communications advice and support to help members, ELT and senior managers communicate the vision, plans and policies of our client in a consistent and proactive way, aligned to the goals of their communications strategy. Support the organisation to anticipate, plan for and manage representational and media issues and risks.

This is a senior specialist role charged with developing and implementing our media relations strategy. As well as working with media outlets on a day-to day-basis, you will look at how our client best manages itself to respond to the needs of journalists and communicate important information. This will include media training and monitoring, ensuring our media response processes are fit for purpose, strategic analysis of our media relationship management and communications strategy practices, and management of media-related partner relationships. As a senior member of the team, you will also collaborate with others on major projects, advise senior managers and elected representatives and work with partners.

This role is well-supported by other media relations and communications practitioners within our Public Affairs unit and the wider Communications department. Reporting to the Manager of Corporate Communication and Media, it is expected that this role will step up to support and mentor the team and provide management support to the manager when needed.

**We are seeking a person who is skilled in**:

- A tertiary qualification in communications, journalism or related discipline is desired
- 7 years experience in local government, NGOs or public sector
organisations with Public Affairs or related discipline
- Significant experience working in large, highly complex environments
- Strong political acumen, including a proven ability to build trust and
credibility with senior politicians and executives
- Proven experience in issues management, crisis communications and
complex issues
- Understanding and experience of the Auckland and central government environments, including strong relationships and networks at a senior level
- Proven ability to provide outstanding customer service to business partners and stakeholders
