All teams within the group play key roles in delivering this service. Our Power System Development team specialises in strategic technical research and advice. The team partners with the Electricity Authority to prepare the System Operator and industry participants to meet the challenges of decarbonisation, whilst ensuring future security and resilience. The team undertakes strategic research and analysis of emerging energy technologies to provide expert advice to enable the Code, standards, and guidelines to evolve to allow their seamless integration into the power system. In addition, the team provides essential power system analysis and expert dynamic modelling and tool support to other teams within the Power System group. Using your outstanding analytical and communication skills, you'll help us engage with the Electricity Authority, and industry participants to make the required changes to the market, standards, and the Code to enable a secure and resilient power system for New Zealand for generations to come. **What will you bring?** Three or more years of experience in analysing operational challenges of integrating renewable generation. You will have honed your ability to understand, analyse, and solve complex power system problems through working for a Transmission System Operator, Grid Owner, Engineering Consultancy, Research Institution, Government, or professional institution. Your communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to problem solve and influence will be put to the test as you consider the implications of an evolving New Zealand power system to power system operations, system security, and stability. You'll consider the challenges for the System Operator due to high penetration levels of renewable or inverter generation technologies, including energy storage systems like batteries, pumped hydro, and hydrogen. - A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, or related field. Knowledge, and at least 3+ years' experience in, modelling and analysing inverter generation technologies. Where applicable please highlight any research/reports/conference papers you have been involved with - Knowledge and at least 3+ years' experience with Power System Analysis Tools to support building dynamic power system models and performing load flow and time domain simulations; ideally Siemens PSS®E or DIgSILENT PowerFactory - You take an enterprise-wide view, and have the curiosity to question and look beyond the obvious to seek alternatives **To be a "Senior" Engineer in the Transpower context - you will also demonstrate**: - 7+ years knowledge and experience in power system operations or transmission planning - The ability to lead power system studies and/or projects and prepare/validate powerflow cases and dynamic models in PowerFactory for conducting power system analysis and simulations - Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others and grow capability - both technical and soft skills - Previous experience working with/leading a team through influence to deliver technical projects - CPEng or an international equivalent. _Desirable _is a master's degree or PhD degree in electrical engineering, power electronics, or related field and membership of professional affiliations and industry working groups, such as CIGRE, IEEE, IET or EEA. **Join us at Transpower** Aotearoa is powered by the people who work here.
