Permanent, full time role available (40 hours per week)
- Working 20 hours per week in our Older Persons Mental

Health service and 20 hours in our Adult Community Therapy Service
- This role involves assessment and management of a broad range of
communication and swallowing difficulties associated with complex neurological,
neurodegenerative and mental health conditions
- The successful applicant will have extensive experience in working with
patients with communication and swallowing issues; be able to work autonomously
and be highly organised; have excellent interpersonal skills and be able to
work effectively in an interdisciplinary team.
- Skills and experience in using
Videofluoroscopy is essential.

**The Team**: What we do
Our Speech Language Therapy staff work within
interdisciplinary community-based therapy teams, while also benefiting from Speech
Language Therapy professional leadership and collegial support. The Adult Community Therapy Service provides
input to a wide variety of patients under the age of 65 years with complex,
predominantly neurological conditions.
The Older Persons Mental Health Service provides acute and longer-term
assessment, treatment and management of patients aged over 65 years suffering
with mental health and neurodegenerative conditions.
Our Speech Language Therapists provide skilled
assessment, management and rehabilitation of a broad range of swallowing and
communication disorders. There is also involvement in a Videofluoroscopy
service based at Burwood Hospital.
The position sits within a mixed-model intervention
service, incorporating clinic-based outpatient input alongside opportunities to
work with clients in their home and communities and to incorporate telehealth
into regular practice. There is also
opportunity to participate in clinical research within Waitaha Canterbury.

**The Role**: Where you fit in
In this role, you will be

**responsible for**:

- Providing comprehensive

assessments, evaluations and therapy in accordance with policies, procedures
and standards of practice for Speech Language Therapy.
- Educating and providing resources to patients and their families/whanau/caregivers
as well as to colleagues in the interdisciplinary team.
- Liaising and co-ordinating with a wide variety of
community-based services
- Ensuring appropriate
documentation and patient records are updated and maintained.
- Supporting student clinical
education placements
- Contributing
to quality service provision within the community teams and wider Speech

**Language Therapy service. Your skills will include**:

- Ability to complete thorough assessments and be able to flexibly

integrate interventions using problem solving and robust communication whilst
being led by your client's goals.
- Ability to use objective assessment tools
- Ability to work within an
interdisciplinary team and communicate well with external agencies and
community services
- Experience in working with
patients with significant comorbidities would also be an advantage.
- Experience in working with
dementia-related cognitive impairment, aphasia and apraxia is essential
- You will be registered with
NZSTA.
- A full drivers licence is
