Wellington City, New Zealand New Zealand Government Full time

**Senior Aviation Advisor - ICAO Safety Audit Programme**
- Key role leading TAIC's ICAO USOAP New Zealand audit responsibilities
- Fixed term or secondment - 12 months, Wellington based

**The role**

The International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) will be undertaking a full-scope Universal Safety Oversight Programme (USOAP) safety audit of New Zealand in 2025. The scope of the audit is wide ranging, covering the New Zealand civil aviation system as a whole. The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) is the workstream lead for Audit Technical Area 6 - Accident and Investigation (AIG), within the wider safety audit programme, with the technical area relating to ICAO Annex 13.

We're therefore seeking a Senior Aviation Advisor to lead this important piece of work.

The project will be divided into three phases: audit preparation, audit participation, and post-audit follow up.

In this role you will:

- in collaboration with aviation investigation leaders, play a key role as the SME in delivering to the ICAO audit team,
- co-ordinate the post-audit follow up actions.

In addition, you'll provide SME input to support TAIC investigations on request.

**About you - skills and experience**

Key to this role is experience within aviation investigation and ICAO aviation safety audit programmes.

In addition, you'll have:

- tertiary and/or industry qualifications in an aviation area
- excellent project management skills
- a very high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- the ability to anticipate and identify issues and risks
- excellent communication skills including very strong technical writing capabilities
- the ability to collaborate with a wide range of people to meet objectives.

This role is based in our central Wellington office.

**About the organisation**

The Transport Accident Investigation Commission (TAIC) investigates significant aviation, rail, and marine accidents and incidents with a view to avoiding similar occurrences in the future. Multi-disciplinary teams investigate and analyse the circumstances of these occurrences, supporting the Commission to consider the facts, and make findings and recommendations to improve transport safety, rather than to ascribe blame.

The Commission has set a visionary goal of “No Repeat Accidents - Ever”

This is an excellent and infrequent opportunity to lead a vital piece of work to support TAIC's responsibility as the New Zealand workstream lead for Audit Technical Area 6 - AIG within the wider safety audit programme.
