We are looking for a Compliance Support Officer to join the Fisheries Compliance team in New Plymouth.
The starting annual salary for this role $53,559 - $72,464 pro-rated depending your on relevant skills and experience.
32 hours per week 4 days a week based in New Plymouth.
Kōrero mō te Tūranga - About the Role
This is a unique role where you are employed by MPI supporting the Fisheries Compliance team, and providing reception and administration support to the New Zealand Police at the Police station located at Bell Block, New Plymouth. The last person who held this position was in the role for close to 20 years Although reporting to the Team Leader Fisheries Compliance, you will work closely with, and have work allocated by the Executive Support Officer to the area Commander NZ Police.
There's lots to do in this job. You'll support the smooth running of the Fisheries Compliance team by providing administrative and logístical support.
As an experienced administrator, you'll bring a level of professionalism, calm and maturity to the role. You'll be friendly and engaging and able to handle sensitive information. You'll be a great organizer and confident using Microsoft Office suite and systems. A high level of attention to detail is a must for this role. You will also be comfortable working in a varied role supporting two different business units.
You will be part of our busy and friendly team, and network of other Compliance Support Officers across the New Zealand. You will be based at Bell Block Police station where Fishery Officers and Police are collocated.
Due to being co-located with Police, and undertaking work for them, you will be required to complete Police vetting.

- Be comfortable being away from home for a night or two for training especially in the first 6 - 12 months within the role
- Have an enquiring mind-set, analytical experience is very useful
- Have a basic understanding of the Treaty of Waitangi
- Have a level of competence in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of programmes and a willingness to learn new IT systems and online communication software like Skype for business, Microsoft teams and Zoom.

Mō tō mātou Rōpū - About the Team
You will be joining the New Plymouth team, an integral part of the Western North Island Fisheries Compliance regional team. There are 26 staff in the wider region in teams spread across Auckland, Hamilton and Whitianga. We are mostly fishery officers, with support staff, an analyst and 2 team leaders. The team come from a variety of backgrounds and are generally people who enjoy time in the outdoors, fishing and the sea, engaging with people, and problem solving.

New Plymouth is nestled between the mountains and the sea on the West coast of the North Island with stunning scenery. The Taranaki community have a strong connection to the sea and are passionate about the sustainable use of seafood. The office is responsible for compliance monitoring from Whanganui in the South to Mokau in the North. There has recently been a significant prohibition on collecting certain species of shellfish which Fishery Officers are working in partnership with local Iwi to ensure its success. There are three Fishery Officers and a compliance support officer based in the New Plymouth office.
