**Mō Tēnei Tūranga Mahi - About the Role**

In this role you will work to ensure the wellbeing of disabled learners is recognised and supported. Our objective is to see more disabled learners coming to Ara and succeeding through initiatives led by the Disability Mental Health and Wellbeing Lead.

The successful applicant will lead disability wellbeing initiatives that can make a strong impact not only in the disabled learners but also their family and wider community. You will contribute to the other disability initiatives from a Mental Health and Wellbeing perspective and add value to the wider Ara community.

Key responsibilities include:

- Leading the Disability Mental Health and wellbeing initiatives.
- Working across the organisation and departments, providing well-being support to disabled learners.
- Supporting the implementation of the Ara Disability Strategy and Action Plan.
- Working with Disability and Mental Health Organisations.

**Ngā Pūkenga Me Ngā Wheako - Skills/Experience**
- Level 4 or above qualification in Mental Health Support or related areas.
- Experience with working in a values driven way
- Knowledge of self-care strategies.
- Proven experience successfully engaging with students and/or communities from diverse backgrounds and identities, in particular within the mental health disability community.
- Excellent communication, listening and interpersonal skills.
- Highly developed therapeutic assessment and intervention skills.
- Skill in analysing and evaluating human behaviour including the ability to interpret unspoken or partially expressed thoughts or concerns.
- Ability to relate to a diverse range of people.
- Ability to work confidentially with clients.
- Strong understanding of child protection related legislation and regulations
- Well-developed relationship building skills and the ability to establish working relationships with agencies, voluntary groups, and individuals
- Understanding of the guidelines around safety protocols when meeting learners or families
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office packages and other relevant business software.
