**About the role**

Te Whatu Ora - Waitaha Canterbury Forensic Intellectual Disability (ID) Team is on a journey of innovation and evolution in delivering the best possible care to our tāngata whaiora. Here, we are focusing on long-term rehabilitation and targeted behavioural interventions for our tāngata whaiora by discovering and building on their personal strengths, and providing a supported transition back to their community.

The primary purpose of the Mental Health Assistant (MHA) is to improve the health outcomes for tangata whaiora. Delivering a high standard of care is important to the Whaikaha team. We are looking for Mental Health Assistants with passion and an interest in supporting the delivery of safe, individualised care to tāngata whaiora within a forensic Intellectual Disability setting.

**Skills and experience**
- Be an enthusiastic individual who brings a range of knowledge and skills acquired in previous mental health and/or intellectual disability settings.
- Have exceptional interpersonal communication skills and a positive demeanour.
- A drive to develop your professional practise.
- Be compassionate and caring and have a strong sense of curiosity about those you care for.
- Critical thinking, planning and adaptability to a constantly changing environment.
- An ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
- A clean full driver license
