The Civil Aviation Authority and the Aviation Security Service offer distinctively different career opportunities and embrace diverse talent. All jobs at the Authority contribute to ensuring safe and secure skies to help New Zealand fly.
The Civil Aviation Authority is the regulatory arm of our organisation and the Aviation Security Service is the nationwide provider for aviation security.
**Digital Architect** - **Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand**
**About Us**
By joining us, you will be part of a team where meaningful work, collaboration and innovation come together to help keep New Zealand's skies safe and secure. At the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand, we are constantly evolving to meet the demands of a changing environment and the aviation industry.
Recent legislative changes, along with an organisational realignment, have opened exciting new opportunities across the organisation. These changes are part of a broader effort to better position our teams for the future by enabling us to be more collaborative, efficient and effective in everything we do.
As we step confidently into our role as a modern regulator, we are embracing intelligence-led, risk-based approaches that help us make a real difference for our people and the communities we serve with a strong value-for-money ethos. We're also committed to enabling aviation participants to support economic growth in New Zealand's aviation sector.
**About the role**
The Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand is seeking a Digital Architect to contribute to the design of our digital systems. This is a rare opportunity to play a pivotal role in modernising the systems that underpin aviation safety and security across Aotearoa.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Develop solution architectures for business, infrastructure, and functional areas, aligning with enterprise standards.
- Create detailed design specifications and architectural plans for new systems and hardware.
- Deliver designs to support our network upgrade (SDWAN and SASE), cloud migration (Azure) and updates to our hybrid infrastructure design.
- Evaluate business requirements, recommend digital solutions, and present cost-benefit analyses.
- Collaborate with internal teams (Digital, Corporate Services, SMEs) and external stakeholders (vendors, government groups) to deliver projects.
- Assess emerging technologies, contribute to technology roadmaps, and support business case development.
**About You**
We are looking for a collaborative, tech-savvy professional with strong judgment and relationship-building skills. You should have:
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
- 5+ years of relevant experience - this may include experience in architecture or other roles that contribute to the skills needed by a Digital Architect (e.g., information management, software development, network and/or infrastructure engineering, customer relationship management, etc.)
- Proven design and architectural skills, with experience in developing and maintaining design documentation.
- TOGAF certification and familiarity with the Government Enterprise Architecture NZ Capability Framework (desirable).
- Current knowledge of trends and emerging technologies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including expertise in cost-benefit analysis and business case writing.
- A commitment to CAA's values: Collaboration, Transparency, Integrity, Respect, and Professionalism.
- Awareness of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and a dedication to fostering an inclusive, safe workplace.
**Why Join Us?**
At CAA, you'll contribute to a safer, more secure aviation system that benefits New Zealand. You'll work in a diverse, inclusive environment where your skills and perspectives are valued. This role offers the opportunity to shape cutting-edge digital infrastructure and make a meaningful impact.
**How to Apply**
**Applications Close: Tuesday 19th August 2025.
