The Older Persons’ Mental Health Inpatient Unit, at Alexandra Hospital in Richmond, provides psychiatric and geriatric care for the older members of our community. We aspire to provide high quality inpatient care to patients with acute mental health needs and/or complex age related health conditions. We work in partnership with our patients, their families, the clinical team and community carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome for the patient.
As a Mental Health Assistant your role is to work with the team to provide basic nursing care under the supervision and direction of Registered Nurses.
The full-time equivalent (FTE) salary for this role is $50,741 - $65,334 based on the current Mental Health & Public Health Nursing MECA, dependent on relevant qualifications and experience. Penal rates and shift allowances are in addition to this.
Shifts will be rostered 3 days on, 3 days off, across Sunday to Monday. Preference will be given to applicants who can work mornings, afternoons and nights. There will be the opportunity to work additional shifts to cover leave and periods of high demand.

We are looking for applicants with excellent communication skills, who have experience in older persons’ health care and an affinity with the elderly. It is equally important that you are able to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty and reliability and use appropriate initiative.
**Qualifications**
Required qualifications include:
- Essential_
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
- Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
- NZQA Level 3 Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand (or equivalent) and if not previously attained needs to be completed within two years of commencement.
