Our name, Te Arawhiti, means ‘the bridge'. This name symbolises the bridge between Māori and the Crown; the bridge between the past, the present and the future; and the journey from grievance to true Tiriti partnership.

Te whiwhinga mahi/The Opportunity
The Historian is a key part of the historian team, developing historical redress for Treaty settlements, engaging in Waitangi Tribunal inquiries and keeping Te Tiriti and its principles at the core of our mahi. Day to day, you may:

- Conduct primary and secondary historical research, including using archives
- Synthesise sources to draft historical account chapters
- Engage with hapū and iwi Māori
- Analyse historical Crown actions through a Treaty lens
- Provide quality assurance across the office

He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience

**To be successful in the role you will**:

- Have experience conducting primary source historical research (ideally you will have experience working with archives)
- Be familiar with Aotearoa New Zealand History
- Bring some understanding of Te Ao Māori, Te Reo Māori me onā tikanga and a commitment to continue learning
- Be committed to the principles of te Tiriti o Waitangi

Utu ā-tau/Salary
The remuneration band for this role will be between $77,128 to $100,720 based on skills and experience.
