**About the Role**
As an Operations Engineer**,**your role will play a vital part in our Infrastructure and Investment Group (IIG) in the Te Manawa Taki District. Ensuring the reliability and efficiency of plant and facilities across your designated hospital and community sites, supporting 24/7 operations and high quality patient care.
You will act as the first line of response between clinical operations and the facilities team, supporting and managing inspections, maintenance, repairs and operation of essential systems including HVAC, medical gases, fire protection, and building management systems (BMS). You will also manage Permit to Work and Safety Isolations processes. You'll contribute to contingency planning, project input, and continuous improvement initiatives.
**About the Team/Service/ Location**
The IIG team are focused on delivering high-impact infrastructure investments that support the transformation of New Zealand's health system. Giving support, oversight and assurance across projects and programmes, they understand that safe, fit for purpose health facilities, sites and equipment are essential for a well-functioning health system that improves the health of all New Zealanders.
Serving over 1 million people, a fifth of New Zealand's population, and stretching across the middle of the North Island from the east to the west coasts, Te Manawa Taki means ‘the heartbeat'. The name reflects the geographical position of the region which includes five districts - Taranaki, Waikato, Lakes, Bay of Plenty and Tairāwhiti. Across the five districts, IIG manages infrastructure spanning 14 sites and more than 100 buildings.
**About you**
You are a technically skilled and solutions focused professional with hands on experience and a strong background in facilities engineering, operational maintenance and managing complex building systems. You understand the critical role infrastructure plays in supporting safe, reliable, and high quality healthcare services.
You bring a deep understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, and building management systems. You're confident working in a 24/7 operational environment. Whether responding to urgent issues, coordinating contractors, or planning preventative maintenance, you approach every task with precision, accountability, and a commitment to safety.
You're a clear communicator who can translate technical challenges into practical solutions, and you're comfortable making decisions that balance operational needs with safety, compliance, and patient wellbeing.
**You will bring**:
- A relevant trade or technical qualification in building, infrastructure, operations or engineering
- Extensive experience maintaining and operating plant, equipment, and building services
- Strong knowledge of mechanical/electrical systems, HVAC, BMS, and fire protection
- Experience in contractor management, work planning, and compliance monitoring
- Experience working in multicultural and diverse environments, with a strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Pae Ora (Healthy Futures) Act 2022
