Te Whatu Ora Counties Manukau is an organisation at the forefront of innovative and equity focused health delivery, serving Aotearoa New Zealand's most culturally diverse population. Middlemore Hospital is the main hub for acute care and referral services within the Counties Manukau District. It is an accredited, teaching hospital of Auckland University and caters for most medical and surgical specialties with a catchment area of around 550,000 people.
We are currently seeking 3 Consultant Renal Physicians to join our dynamic and progressive multidisciplinary department. The roles will be combined Renal and General Medicine Senior Medical Officer (SMO) positions based at Middlemore Hospital, in South Auckland. Our SMO expansion will be supported by the exciting Manukau Health Park development which will provide a new dialysis centre, as well as co-designed clinical and non-clinical spaces for our team.
Our Renal Department has 15 Renal Physicians, 4 Registrars, 1 Research Fellow and 2 House Officers who work closely with the dedicated Nursing and Allied Health team. The Renal service includes an inpatient ward, an acute 26 bed inpatient dialysis unit, 3 satellite dialysis units and 3 community houses. The service delivers outpatient care including in-centre haemodialysis, home haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and outpatient dialysis and nephrology clinics.
Together, we treat over 700 patients across all dialysis modalities. The care we provide is founded on a strong philosophy and organisational policy of independent and home based renal replacement therapy. We look after approximately 300 renal transplant patients who are returned to us early after transplantation at an adjacent hospital.
General Medicine is the largest of the 13 Departments in the Division of Medicine and has close ties with Medicine Subspecialties. All subspecialties contribute to undergraduate and post-graduate teaching programmes. General Medicine work at Middlemore Hospital is wide and varied, providing an engaging acute clinical experience to complement Renal Medicine.
The posts offer a broad focus on patient care, research and education, within a collegial and friendly work environment. Under the Renal workflow, opportunities exist to undertake interventional and procedural work for those with aptitude and previous experience (Tunnelled lines, Tenckhoff catheter insertion).
Salary and conditions of service will be in accordance with the New Zealand ASMS Award Agreement.
