Christchurch City Council is seeking a Landscape Maintenance Advisor to support greenspace and vegetation management activities across the Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant (CWTP) and Banks Peninsula Treatment sites.
This role sits within the Three Waters Unit and requires a considered and well-organised approach to operational oversight, compliance, and ecological enhancement within a complex industrial setting.

The Landscape Maintenance Advisor oversees landscape operations, contractor performance, and native planting programmes at the CWTP. You will be responsible for scheduling, auditing, and advising on maintenance practices that meet operational and environmental requirements, while balancing limited access, public interface, and safety.
The role involves collaboration across Council teams and external stakeholders, and requires sound judgement when resolving on-the-ground maintenance issues or escalating compliance matters.
Key responsibilities | Ngā haepapa
- Develop and maintain a site-wide landscape and vegetation maintenance schedule
- Lead site audits and monitor contractor performance, including risk and quality assessments
- Coordinate native planting and nursery supply for restoration and midge control efforts
- Support small-scale project scoping, contractor engagement, and operational oversight
- Contribute to environmental compliance and vegetation management under relevant consent conditions
Engage with internal staff, mana whenua, landowners, and environmental groups to support long-term greenspace outcomes
**About you | Ko Koe Tēnei**
You will bring significant experience in landscape or environmental site management, preferably in infrastructure-adjacent or industrial contexts. You will be able to work independently, manage competing priorities, and communicate effectively across technical and community settings.
You will ideally bring:
- At least 7 years' experience in landscape management, including supervisory responsibilities
- Familiarity with site operations in restricted or infrastructure environments
- Strong knowledge of ecological planting and maintenance practices
- Proven stakeholder engagement and relationship-building skills
- Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience
- Full NZ driver's licence and WTR endorsements (desirable)
- GrowSafe and Chainsaw NZQA Level 3 qualifications (preferred)
- Experience using asset and contract management systems (e.g., SAP, IPS, GIS)

- Hours of work - Monday to Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm_
- Position - Permanent, full-time_
- Location - This position is primarily based at Christchurch Wastewater Treatment Plant (Shuttle Drive), with occasional travel to Banks Peninsula sites_
