He Hononga/Connection (Ground Floor) of Tūranga, is central to the way people connect with Tūranga, the wider libraries network, and our city. The Floor Leader brings this operation together so that people feel like they belong and are able to access all that the library offers.

Tūranga is now in its fourth year of operation and getting lively again after some quieter periods due to Covid. This is an exciting time to join our leadership team as we reflect and build on business at Tūranga.

**The environment**

All our libraries teams work hard to create safe opportunities for people to participate, connect, and enjoy life. On He Hononga/Connection, the Ground Floor of Tūranga, this sense of purpose is strong every day as we welcome customers and provide support to the building as a whole.

Our team of Library Assistants, Liaison and Operations Support staff work in a way that is respectful, inclusive, and highly adaptable, to make many things possible for customers and colleagues.

He Hononga is a front of house and back of house operation. The people who bring the Floor (and building) alive every day include our customers (many regulars), colleagues from the Foundation Café and various Libraries and Council teams, our security guards and other external services, as well as our visiting exhibitors and hirers. We work with, and depend on, each other as we go about our activities across 80 or so hours a week. And of course there is the buzz of being part of the all-Tūranga team - five distinctive and wonderful Floors.

**What we need you to bring**

Our service philosophy adds further meaning to our work, guiding us, sustaining us, and helping us to grow. We live the values of manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga, whanaungatanga, and māramatanga. We would need you to show strong commitment to working according to these values.

Given the nature of the He Hononga operation, your relevant knowledge and experience may include work outside of libraries but we do need you to be aware of, and curious about, innovative practices in public libraries.

As He Hononga Floor Leader you cannot be, or do, all things. So you need to have nous, exercise good judgement and problem solving, and enable others to become confident and capable.

He Hononga can be unpredictable, so you need to be prepared to manage unexpected and sometimes challenging situations. You will need to be calm, able to consider different solutions, and prepared to take calculated risks - always looking for the best outcome and resolution.

**Other information**

Tūranga has a Team Leader and Floor Leader for each of its five Floors. Our leaders work together to manage the five library Floors as one library service.

**Additional information**:

- Hours of work_ - Normal hours of work will be Monday to Friday including one evening (currently Monday), with some rostered weekend shifts. Evening and weekend shifts enable us to share Person-in-Charge duties across the leadership group.
- Location_ - This position is primarily based at Tūranga Library

Whilst staff working at the Christchurch City Council are not currently required to be vaccinated, applicants need to be aware that should the COVID-19 environment change, roles across the organisation will be assessed, and the requirement to be vaccinated may be reviewed.
