**Te whiwhinga mahi | The Opportunity**

The National Public Health Service (NPHS) within Health New Zealand Te Whatu Ora, work towards Pae Ora (healthy futures) for all by engaging with the wider determinants that impact people's health, focusing on oranga/wellbeing, prevention, protection, and population-level intervention. We are connected across boundaries to deliver public health services that are nationally planned, regionally delivered and locally tailored.

The Intelligence Directorate is a new structure, a central population and public health operational Intelligence team that is regionally networked and collaborative across organisations and agencies. The establishment of the Intelligence directorate in NPHS gives us the opportunity to review our data, analytical techniques, and products, to ensure we are honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Our data and products need to be informative and interpretable; they also need to reflect the voices and stories of our communities.

**Mōu | About you**

You are someone with the ability to quickly assimilate new information, and to write and talk about complex issues clearly and concisely with a range of audiences. You have experience, knowledge and skills in working with diverse communities and skills to deal effectively with complex and politically sensitive situations or topics.

**Ngā pūkenga me ngā wheako | Skills and experience**
- A relevant tertiary qualification, or equivalent experience. A background in public health, Pacific health, Māori health, health sciences, social sciences or similar is desirable
- Five or more years of relevant experience using qualitative or quantitative research/evaluation techniques, data analysis, research practices and principles for the area of focus
- A strong interest in all areas of public health
- A background in epidemiology would be beneficial
- Ability to synthesise data and information provided by analysts into clear public health advice
- Experience preparing briefs for senior leadership is desirable
- Some leadership experience, which may include having designed and managed a programme of work and resources
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and a demonstrated ability to write clear, well-structured and meaningful outputs
- Health sector and/or government experience and knowledge of government structures and processes is beneficial
- Certification or equivalent experience in using analytical tools such as SQL, R or Python, R-Shiny, and PowerBI desirable
