**Senior Advisor, Pacific Disaster Risk Management Programme (Technical Input)**
**Type**: 24 month (fixed term or secondment)
**Location**:Wellington-based only
**Mo tenei turanga mahi | About this role**
In this role you will be supporting capacity and capability enhancement in targeted Pacific National Disaster Management Offices (NDMO), communities and government agencies in emergency management planning and preparedness. You will work alongside the NDMOs to deliver emergency management technical advice and peer-to-peer support against agreed work programmes.
NEMA are committed to New Zealand providing an effective and timely response to disasters globally and in the Pacific, and to improved levels of resilience and enhanced capability for risk reduction, readiness, response and recovery from disasters in the Pacific. This is carried out through the Pacific Disaster Risk Management (DRM) Programme, funded by MFAT and managed by the International Engagement Team of NEMA through a Memorandum of Understanding.
**Due to the nature of our role in Emergency Management, NEMA has a very dynamic work environment and as a small agency, staff are often required to pivot and change focus on their work at short notice. Attributes of adaptability, agility, resilience and curiosity are all required on a daily basis, in and out of times of emergency response.**

- Resilience, agility and curiosity
- Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders
- Experience working in Pacific contexts, with an understanding of cultural and operational dynamics, including demonstrated understanding of Pacific geopolitics.
- Experience designing and implementing emergency management systems, processes, and plans, preferably in the Pacific or other developing countries.
- Strong communication and influencing skills

- Flexible, adaptable and solutions-focused with sound judgement and political awareness to make effective decisions in complex situations.
- Experience and knowledge in emergency management including policy, planning, and CIMS.
- Strong influencing and communication skills, including engagement with senior stakeholders.
- Has high standards of professionalism, integrity and accountability.
- Willing and able to travel internationally.
- Willing and able to support response on short notice including after hours and weekends.
