Parliamentary Service supports New Zealand's democracy by providing excellent service to Members of Parliament, our stakeholders and the public. We have an exciting opportunity for a communications specialist with te reo Māori capability to take up the role of Pou Tiaki Whakapā, to provide support to Te Mātāwaka - the Green Party's Māori and Pasifika Caucus.
Mō te tūranga nei - About the role
This is more than a traditional press secretary role, utilising multiple forms of storytelling including written, visual, and audio. The Pou Tiaki Whakapā will support MPs to build and strengthen relationships with Māori & Pasifika communities, media, and regional media to grow awareness of the Green Party kaupapa and policies.
**Ngā haepapa - Key responsibilities**:
- Providing guidance on media issues, identifying strong media story opportunities, and mitigating risks
- Drafting press releases and social media content
- Assist MPs in preparing media interviews and speeches in te reo Māori
- Building relationships within Te Ao Māori networks, key media, and stakeholders to inform them of Green Party positions
- Working collaboratively with policy advisors, researchers, and the communications team to support MPs in their roles
Ko wai koe? - Who are you
We are open to a range of experience from entry level to experienced with the right skills, attitude, and drive for the Green Party kaupapa.
To be considered for this opportunity, you will ideally come with:
- background in journalism, communications, public relations, and/or advocacy campaigning
- a deep understanding of Te Ao Māori and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
- the ability to speak and write in Te Reo Māori is essential
- proven ability to build and maintain relationships with Māori, other journalists, and diverse community networks
- strong problem-solving skills, sound judgment, and discretion in maintaining confidentiality.

The salary range for this role is $78,625 - $89,250. Highly experienced applicants may be appointed above this range. Appointments will be based on skills and experience.
