**Te āhuatunga a te tūranga/About the Role**

The Public Defence Service (PDS) is looking for an experienced lawyer with a speciality in criminal advocacy to join our team in the Tauranga PDS office. We are a collegial and professional office with around 12 legal and support staff working in a busy environment.

You will find challenge and satisfaction with the varied caseload, including high profile cases and the opportunity for High Court and Court of Appeal trials and appearances. You will have colleagues around you who you can learn from and who will support your development to the next level of your career, and a comprehensive professional development programme. The work comes to the PDS via Legal Aid and you will be supported by professional administrators.

**He pūkenga tou/Skills and Experience**

To be successful you must be passionate about criminal justice issues and:

- have a PAL 2 or 3 approval level and be qualified to practice law in New Zealand
- have confidence in your ability to develop credibility with judges, peers, and others in the legal community
- enjoy sharing legal expertise, exchanging ideas and brainstorming
- have empathy and the ability to relate to a wide range of people

**Utu ā-tau/Salary**

The appointing salary for this role will be between $91,523 and $127,562 based on skills and experience.
